Our top Charleston area vacation rental tips and tricks:

When to visit Charleston & When to reserve a Charleston area rental home:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Make a plan and pick yourrental home:

  • Choose your dates and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Open and Comfy home near Downtown-Folly Beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If not, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what is best for your trip.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
  • Upon check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
  • On check-out day, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
