Finding the best Charleston area vacation home experience:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • Summertime is high season in Charleston. To find the most suitable rental within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many property management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning, picking, and booking your Charleston area rental:

  • Choose vacation week and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Newly-renovated home in downtown Charleston w\/private washer\/dryer, free WiFi has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property management company before you reserve the property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • If there's a particular Charleston area attraction you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. Call the rental manager right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to compel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
