Tips to get the optimal rental home experience:

When to go & When to reserve a Charleston rental home:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. Booking your Charleston area vacation home in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Choosing the perfect rental home in the Charleston area area:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Luxury Living, Community Pool, & Stunning Views! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before you book the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • During check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many concerns.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
