Tricks and tips to get the perfect Charleston area vacation home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Book your Charleston area vacation home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Choose your vacation dates and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Luxury Oasis - 3 NEW Houses on 1 Property has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you reserve the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
