About this space
Fantastic home for families, couples and groups of friends, this home on the marsh (which we affectionately refer to as Marsh View) accommodates and inspires an escape from anxiety bringing you into the peaceful beauty of the tidal creek, yet close proximity to Charleston city life and Folly beach fun. The home is open, minimal and subtly beautiful. Simplicity is the theme, efficiency is the game, comfort is the goal.

The space
There is no better location than James Island when you are visiting Charleston because you have the ambience of a peaceful neighborhood but are a ten min. Uber ride from Downtown King St in Charleston for the best shopping, and many options for the best dining on the peninsula. As if that were not enough, from the Marsh View property you are only ten mins. from Folly beach! Located between both of these jewels is the jewel of Marsh View, a comfortable home with refreshed shabby chic decor right on a impressive tidal creek. It now features a new modern range exhaust and remodeled hall bathroom.

Guest access
The whole home is yours, as well as the broad back yard, the kayaks and access to the tidal creek and anything growing in the garden. Emphasis in this home is on the comfort of the beds, Casper beds on sturdy platforms, and on the elegance and simplicity of the kitchen, dining and living area. The additional room also has a full size sink for overflow in the bathrooms and a washer/dryer to keep up with laundry. Sheets and towels are extravagant and plentiful.

Other things to note
Instead of cable, we provide Roku which offers Netflix and many, many more channels. These are complimentary to you. However if you think to bring your account number of your own cable account, you will be able to access channels you pay for at home. Just please remember to sign out before you leave.

Also, the hall bathroom is freshly updated, substituting the modest footed tub for a shower, and kid-sized sink for a vanity. No worries though, the adorable tiny sink is now in the outdoor shower!

About the Area

Splash Zone Waterpark and Charleston Museum are local attractions and those in the mood for shopping can visit Upper King Design District and Shops at Charleston Place. Traveling with kids? Tricks and tips to get the very best Charleston area vacation home experience:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Reserve your rental property in the Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select your dates and budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. James Island Retreat 10 minutes from downtown! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. Otherwise, reach out to the host before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

Know before you go:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
  • Upon arrival, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a excellent time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
