Keep an eye out for these magazines and promotional books, as this allows vacationers to discover the same great attractions with a often considerable discounted.
  • Flexible about when you can visit? The off-peak shoulder seasons frequently offer terrific rates on rentals.
  • Plenty of management companies and owners offer discount rates for active and veteran men and women of the US Armed forces, or repeat travelers of the same rental. Make sure to confirm with property manager to see if your travelling gang is eligible for a price reduction.
  • Is there a certain activity you are most anticipating during your stay? You will definitely get the most value from a home which most directly matches your ideal vacation setting, regardless if it costs a bit extra.
  • Give thought to obtaining trip insurance with your rental contract. Trip insurance, which generally costs somewhere between 1% - 5% of the basic rental cost, provides travellers reimbursement of their rental costs for any missed resulting from health-related emergencies or storms, and additionally ensuing extra hurricane evacuation costs or expenses, such as an unplanned hotel room stay or additional gasoline.

How to Book a Rental Home

Newcomers are often surprised at the number and selection of short term rental properties available in the Charleston area area. Vacation home accommodations have gained in popularity with the rise of global research sites like Tripadvisor and VRBO.

Vacation homes are usually owner operated or managed by rental management companies. Property management companies are well-liked by owners because they manage the marketing and operations..

We've constructed a short guide to assist you in getting most from your vacation rental experience.

How to find and reserve the perfect rental home:

Do you believe "Intercoastal*BayBeach Home on Private Goat Island at Charleston SC*SMOAK HOUSE" is the best vacation property for your next family vacation? Look over this guide to make sure it fits your needs.

The Earlier You Start, The Better The Choices

Charleston area rental properties start booking very early. To get the best selection, begin your planning and search 6-12 months before your trip. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home..

Choose a Village and Time

Start by figuring out which specific area of Charleston area you'd like to visit, and the determine dates you'll be vacationing.

How Much Rental home Do You Need?

Take a head count. How many beds and bedrooms will you need? Remember that that a lot of rentals list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in the living area. It is important to determine what is acceptable for your group. Precise descriptions of bedrooms and beds are typically accessible online. Otherwise, speak to the property owner before you reserve the home.

Stay on a Budget

Will your chosen vacation property fit your budget during that choice Summer week? Be sure to get cost-sharing commitments from travel companions well before reserving an expensive rental. Most rental documents require a single person to be liable for the entire reservation.

Vacation home Amenities

What home features is the family searching for? Is a screened deck a requirement? Would you like to be away from it all, or near civilization? Are bedsheets included with the rental contract, or do you need to bring your own? Make a list of prioritized "needs and desires" from your party to help filter your search to the most suitable home.

Accessibility and Special Concerns

Commonly the elder generation has challenges with stairways. If wheel chair access, elevators, pool lifts or other special devices are necessary, factor that into your search. The majority of vacation home postings will include a list of amenities.

Your Puppy Deserves a Vacation, Too

Don't forget to include your best friend! Animals are welcome at a number of vacation rentals, but policies can vary. A number of restrictions could eliminate a potential rental. Study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or deposits may be applied to your contract. Ask questions *well before* you book!

Searching the Internet

After the area, dates and guests are decided, search multiple sources to get the best rental home selection. Besides Homeaway, VRBO and Tripadvisor, we recommend searching Google for "Charleston area local rentals" for local vacation rental management companies. Local companies generally have an exclusive selection of rental homes daily and weekly.

Negotiate

Re-read the description to make sure the home has everything that you need. If something is missing, the rental management company might know of similar homes that suit your style and budget..

Some rental home owners will negotiate rates, and some will not. If the price isn't negotiable, the number of nights may be. Off-peak weeks are likely to be negotiable more often than peak-season..

Study the Entire Contract

Read the full contract and be sure you are aware who is liable for:

  • Power bills
  • Internet
  • Long Distance Phone Service
  • Hot Tub Heating
  • Cable and pay-per-view TV
  • Cleaning Service
  • Trash collection
  • Maintenance policies
  • Key exchange
  • Parking Fees

Make sure your quoted fee includes all taxes and fees.

Cancelling your Rental

Cancellation policies are different with each property. Many rental home agreements include an option for trip insurance. Trip insurance, which frequently costs ranges from 1% - 5% of the standard vacation rental rate, provides vacationers with reimbursement of their vacation costs (and subsequent rental property costs) for any nights missed as a result of personal health-related emergencies or storms, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as a unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas.

Reserve your Rental Home

After you feel you've identified "the one", start the reservation process. Remember that most rental agreements require a significant rental down payment and/or security deposit to cover the rental owner.

Keep Your Property Manager's Info

Make sure that you get the manager's contact telephone number and entry/exit procedures for your vacation property. We recommend storing the contact's information in your phone and wallet.

Good luck on reserving your vacation rental! You're on the right path to a fabulous vacation!

During your Stay

  • Photograph on your arrival. Record the overall condition of the rental unit right away. If you find problems, or if fixes are required call the property manager immediately.
  • When there's any ambiguity about vehicle parking, policies of the house, condo access, swimming pool operations, etc... we recommend you ask the rental home manager promptly. A brief phone call avoids many hassles.
  • Please be considerate of the local community. Often, neighboring homes are lived in by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and vehicle parking rules can make a visit a little more relaxing.
  • Ask a local. Local residences can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best pizza, have a great night out, or the best areas for night life?
  • Make sure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, exactly like you would at home.

When its Time to Leave

  • Clean up a lttle bit. Even if you're paying a cleaning fee, The vacation rental needs to be in sound condition. Kitchen sinks filled with dishes, substantial sand on the floors and sticky messes should really be dealt with before you leave.
  • Make a point to walk through the rental home one last time and check for property damage. We recommend walking through with the rental manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible).. If the property owner is not available, make sure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a blast? Many rental management companies and rental home sites make it easy for renters to give feedback. If the property and/or property manager was top-notch, they will appreciate your compliments. If something went wrong and they didn't fix it in a acceptable manner, or when the rental was not as described, you'll want to make it a point in your review.

Learn and Improve

Did everyone have a good time? Maybe everything turned out to be ideal and you are happy to reserve the rental home for your next vacation. If not, you have acquired valuable experience to aid with another search.
