Tips and Tricks to get the very best Charleston area vacation property experience:

Sticking to a spending budget:

  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. Reserve your rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guides that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Selecting the best rental in the Charleston area area:

  • Select vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Hampton Park Place
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking websites. If not, email the property manager before booking the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.

Know before you go:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few issues.
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • To make sure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
