Charleston rental booking tips:

Money saving strategies:

  • Book your Charleston area rental property in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • To start, have your group commit to date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Two Bedroom House Downtown. has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before booking the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.

Know before you go:

  • Add the property manager's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great time? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
