  • Private vacation home

Walkable location to everything downtown has to offer. King St. bar scene, college campuses and Hampton Park all within ten mins. walk, with MUSC just around the corner. A coffee shop, wellness center, corner store, flower shop, tapas restaurant and bar literally next door! Within a two block radius you will be overwhelmed with spectacular restaurant options. Wifi, parking, laundry, work spaces and outdoor space all on premises. Only a 10 min. drive to the beach. NEVER floods on our block!

The first record of this home was in 1890. We have done definitely everything we can to preserve and highlight all of the historic appeal, while simultaneously updating with fun modern amenities. This decor of this home reflects that, with an eclectic mix of Victorian, mid century, and modern aesthetics.

This home is really charming. We were told when purchasing the home that at least 5 previous owners/tenants got married from living and meeting in the home.

----
In your space you will find two bedrooms, each outfitted with comfortable queen beds and spaces to work. Each bedroom also features a fireplace complete with the original mantles, refreshed light fixtures with remotes, and the original heart pine floors.

The kitchen and living rooms are separate, but do have an open floor plan, with plenty of room to stretch out. They feature the original heart pine beams and brick fireplace. The living room has a 55 inch intelligent TV with access to Apple TV. The kitchen has brand new appliances including a dishwasher, as well as butcherblock counters surrounding the stainless steel farmhouse sink.

The roomy bathroom was converted from porch space, so it still has the original bead board walls and ceiling and patina’d door. The vintage features are juxtaposed with a pretty walk in shower complete with a rain showerhead and wand, double vanity with granite counters, brand new washer and dryer, and ample storage.

The original stairwell features bead board panels and vintage wallpaper.
You will have private access to both the lower and upper porch, with dining space as well as a swinging day bed. The upstairs porch also features the original cast iron tub that we converted into a striking garden accent.

All of the art, decor, and furnishings in the home were sourced locally. If you are curious if a piece is for sale, just ask!

Much of what you find in this home is one-of-a-kind, so please keep that in mind during your stay!

How to get the best Charleston rental home experience:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal SC. To get the best value, shift your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Narrow your Search:

  • Start by having your family commit to date ranges and a budget.
  • Best Block DT has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what is best for your vacation.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.

More tips for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
  • During arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
