Getting the best Charleston area vacation property experience:
When to visit Charleston & When to reserve a rental home:
- Summer months are high season in Charleston. Book your vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

- Is your family looking for special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.
More tips for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your visit, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. text the property manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to propel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback.
