How to Save Money on Your Rental

  • Many property owners and vacation rental houses provide Charleston area area travel discount books which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by merchants, or utilizing a relationship between the property manager and the local business itself. These guides can provide a good start to your rental search.
  • Desire to stay away from the crowds of people? Off-peak times provide sizable savings.
  • A number of property management companies and owners offer special discounts for active duty and veteran men and women of the US Military, or returning individuals to the same property. Be sure to confirm with property manager to see if your travelling group is eligible for a discounted rate.
  • Some vacation rentals are basically catered to specific customers, whether it is beachfront units with fishing pier passes, city-center homes with nearby access to shopping or waterfront homes that feature their own kiteboarding launching areas. You should prioritize your proximity to the family activities and points of interest you are most looking forward to.
  • Rental companies and individual property owners typically offer their clients an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base vacation rental rate, provides vacationers reimbursement of their rental expenses for any days missed as a consequence of personal medical related emergencies or weather, and additionally ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, like an unanticipated motel stay or extra gas.

How to Book a Vacation Home

Some people are shocked to learn just how many rentals can be found in Charleston area. Rental homes are gaining in popularity among vacationers, and visitors will find that the sheer number of vacation homes available makes it possible to find an ideal retreat to suit their Charleston area family, from restful condominiums to larger event homes with several bedrooms.

Rentals are commonly owner operated or managed by property management companies. Property owners frequently select management companies to assist with marketing and advertising, house cleaning and routine maintenance.

We have put together a brief guide to help you get the most from your rental home experience.

Searching for and booking the right vacation property:

Before you start to book "Port O' Call A303/ 1BR Ocean View Condo w/ Wild Dunes Amenities! ", examine our brief list of issues to consider.

Begin Your Search Early

Charleston area vacation rentals start booking early. To get the best selection, start your planning and search Six-12 months in advance of your vacation. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental home..

Find your Area and Establish Dates

Start by choosing which specific area of Charleston area you'd like to visit, and the determine trip dates.

Exactly How Much Rental home Do You Need?

How many relatives are joining your trip? Try to remember that a lot of vacation rentals list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in the living room space. You will need to determine what is acceptable for your company. Specific descriptions of bedrooms and beds are usually available on the internet. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you book.

Decide on Your Budget

The majority of vacation rentals are presented with a price range. Confirm the price for your selected stay. It might be at the top end of the range. If a few individuals or family members are sharing the cost, check to make sure everyone knows their responsibilities and has agreed to a maximum they are willing to contribute. One member of your family will need to be in charge of collecting contributions and agreeing to responsibility for the entire rental payment at time of reservation.

Create a list of "Wishes" and "Necessities"

What home features is the family trying to find? Is a swimming pool reallynecessary?Do you want a rental with patio lounge? Are you more enthusiastic about a natural landscape or night life? Are items like beach chairs, gas grills, beach umbrellas, buggies or coolers at your disposal and included in your rental property rate? Gather a list of prioritized "needs and preferences" from your party to help filter your search to the most appropriate property.

Special Circumstances

Suitable access could make or ruin a visit for the less-mobile. If wheel chair access, elevators, pool lifts or other special devices are needed, include that into your search. The majority of rental listings include a list of amenities.

Take the Dog

Are you or other individuals in the group visiting with a pet dog? While quite a few vacation rentals permit animal friends, rules and charges vary per rental. A number of constraints could dismiss a prospective rental home. Examine your contract thoroughly! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your agreement. Ask questions *prior to* you reserve!

Its Time to Search

A number of websites exist to match renters with property owners.. In combination with Homeaway, VRBO and Tripadvisor, we recommend searching Google for "Charleston area local vacation rentals" for local vacation rental management companies. Local rental home management companies take pride in a first-class rental experience.

Negotiate

Re-read the description to be certain the home has everything required. If something is missing, the vacation rental management company may know of very similar properties that better suit your desires and budget..

While not true for all rental homes, many rental owners and property managers will make a deal on rates. If they are hesitant to budge on a highly-desirable trip, try getting an additional night. This is most effective throughout the off-season when many homes sit vacant.

Read Through The Agreement

Read through the complete contract and make sure you understand who is liable for:

  • Electric bills
  • Internet
  • Phone service
  • Pool and hot tub heating
  • Pay Per View Movies
  • Cleaning Fees
  • Trash collection
  • Maintenance (get a phone number)
  • Check in & Check Out Key Exchange
  • Parking requirements

Get a total that includes taxes, pet and other additional fees.

What is the Cancellation Policy?

Cancellation policies are different with each rental. You'll probably be offered trip insurance. Trip insurance guards the renter against emergencies and weather events, It gives comfort should tragedy strike.

Reserve your Vacation Property

When everything looks correct, it's finally time to sign on the dotted line. Remember that most rental agreements will require a substantial rental down payment and/or security deposit to safeguard the vacation home owner.

Know Who to Call

Be sure you get the manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend keeping the contact's details in your smartphone and wallet.

Good luck on booking your rental home! You're on the way to a fabulous vacation!

During your Stay

  • Take pictures at your arrival. Take notes of any damage when you arrive. We also advise immediately calling the rental manager with a report of any problems, together with your request for any critical repairs.
  • Ask questions. If you have any ambiguity about vehicle parking, policies of the house, condo access, swimming pool operations, etc... we suggest you ask the rental home manager immediately. A brief phone call avoids many hassles.
  • Remember to respect your nearby neighbors. . Respecting late-night quiet hours and vehicle parking restrictions can make a visit considerably more pleasant.
  • Ask a local. Natives are a fantastic source of recommendations. Who better to ask where to get the best chicken wings, have a great date night, or the best places for night life?
  • Make sure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the property secured while you are away, just like you would at home.

At the end of your stay

  • Make sure you've packed everything. Inspect drawers, bath cabinetry and cabinets.
  • Once everything is out, do a walk-through of the property to make sure that no property damage occurred in the course of your stay. If it is possible, do this walk-out inspection with the property manager present. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • How was your getaway? Most vacation rental management companies and vacation rental websites make it easy for travellers to offer feedback. If your vacation rental and/or property manager was top-notch, they will appreciate your positive reviews. If something went wrong and they didn't correct it in a practical manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you should note that as part of your critique.

Iterate

Hold a vacation recap meeting with your travel companions. Does everyone want to return next year? If everything was fantastic, next year's trip planning will be relatively easy. If not, you have gained useful rental search experience that can help with the next search.
