About the Area

Located near the beach, this cottage is in West Ashley, a neighborhood in Charleston. The area's natural beauty can be seen at Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie National Historical Park and Johnson Hagood Memorial Stadium, while Music Farm and Charleston Music Hall are cultural highlights. Traveling with kids? Consider Charleston Museum, or check out an event or a game at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. Jet skiing and kayaking offer great chances to get out on the surrounding water, or you can seek out an adventure with ecotours and horse riding nearby.

Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:

When to go & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Summer time is high season in Charleston. To get the largest rental within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

How to pick the perfect rental home in the Charleston area area:

  • To start, have your group agree to dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Charleston Cottage has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. If not, contact the host before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
  • Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
