Finding the best rental home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- To find the best value, try changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Selecting the perfect rental in Charleston:
- Select a group lead, select your dates, and select a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Casa Blanca (Suite C) by StayDuvet! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If they are not listed, contact the host before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. message the host right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
