Strategies to get the optimal vacation home experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in Charleston. Book your Charleston area rental property in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many property management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides which include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Make a plan and choose yourrental home:

  • Choose your vacation dates and max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Beautiful Downtown Condo has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your trip.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a excellent time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
